The Bell Jar 10

Throughout the novel, Esther had always dreamt of sleeping with a man. Esther had always wanted to sleep with a man but did not want to worry about what could possible come with it such as pregnancy. Finally, the opportunity to have sex arose when she met Irwin. Irwin was a math professor at Harvard. After sleeping with Irwin, Esther was not satisfied. She complained of it hurting reprehensibly. Afterwards, Esther began to bleed a tremendous amount. She showed Joan how much she was bleeding, and Joan immediately sent her to the hospital. The doctors said that it was very unusual to have that much bleeding after her first sexual experience. In conclusion, Esther’s first sexual experience was nowhere near what she had dreamt of.

Abbey-
I thought your blog was very good and I agree with about what you said on how she felt after losing her virginity.I felt like she was still relieved to have finally done the deed, though it came with a lot of pain and like you said it was not what she had dreamed of for all those years.
Great Job!

Abbey!!
I agree, i feel like she was satisfied that she actually lost her virginity, but her sanctification ended there. The actually experience was not what she planned on at all. She felt a whole bunch of pain, and she experienced something that almost never happens with her sexual experience. This is extreme irony.
But Good Postttt!!

Abbey,
I agree that her first sexual experience was a let down, but do remember that she still felt some happiness from the fact she finally had sex. Sadly it had to be the way it happened though. It was extremely rare for that much bleeding to occur for a first time sexual experience, so even with sex Esther cannot be happy. I also think she disliked Irwin not only because of what happened but the feeling that she was done with him, he did what she needed from him, and now she no longer had a use for him. Besides those things I agree with everything else you had to say.

Good blog
